Welcome to our latest article and photo blog of – Beautiful Photos of Cairns.
As a local living in Cairns we get to enjoy this amazing little city on a daily basis. We are blessed with the amazing natural beauty that exists in Cairns.
Cairns has an amazing waterfront board walk that extends from the very northern part of the Esplanade near the airport all the way along the Eastern side waterfront board walk past the Cairns Marlin Marina and Reef Fleet Terminal. It travels all the way South to the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal and stops.
So without further ado lets take a look at some of the photos we have taken over the last 12 months.
The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is a stand out feature of Cairns. This large outdoor saltwater lagoon is flushed with sea water, crystal clear blue waters with Palm trees and green grass. Many travelers and backpackers can be seen relaxing and sun baking around the lagoon on bright sunny days.
Local Tip: There are also free BBQ that you can use up until 9pm everynight.
The above image is the big grass are between the lagoon and the Pier Shopping Centre and Marina. The Esplanade Boardwalk takes you right on the edge of where the Ocean meets the land. On bright blue colourful days you can take spectacular pictures like the one above.
The Waterfront Boardwalk at High Tide. A great spot for locals and tourists to take a walk and enjoy this beautiful part of the city.
As you walk North towards the airport on the Cairns Esplanade, you can walk off the path and down to the water. Here you can find many small flowering plants living in the salty soil next to the ocean. Great for taking land and water photos.
The further North you walk you will find the Cairns Esplanade viewing platform. A small jetty-like structure that allows you to get out over the water. Great for bird watching and plane spotting.
Tip: The Cairns International Airport is located just over the dark green mangroves in the far distance of the photos. So it is also a great spot for watching all the giant Jumbo aeroplanes taking off.
This photo shows the end of the Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk. The footpath does continue North all the way to the airport turn off so you can still walk or cycle for another 15min or so. But this is the end of where the Ocean meets the mainland.
As you look to the West you will see some of Cairns best-known hotels. Currently called the Acacia Court Hotel Cairns.
There are many large hotels on the Cairns Esplanade. The above it the Rydges Tradewinds Hotel Cairns. Great views from the Ocean view rooms.
The Doubletree By Hilton Hotel Cairns, another property with great views of the Cairns Esplanade and waterfront.
As you walk South along the boardwalk from the Doubletree Hotel you will come across the Cairns War Memorial site. Located just in front of the Cairns RSL Club.
Many locals and tourist use the Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk to get in and out of the city. The above photo shows tourists walking along the boardwalk to go and check in at The Reef Fleet Terminal. They are carrying there Snorkel, Fins and Mask ready for a great day out snorkeling and diving on The Great Barrier Reef.
The Mantra Trilogy and Aquarius Hotel. located on the Cairns Esplanade.
As you continue to walk you will see the Bird Watching and Viewing platform. There is a pay as you view Telescope for spotting some of the many native birds and marine animals that use the Cairns Esplanade Mud Flats to feed and rest. Often large white Pelicans can be seen living and feeding in the shallow muddy waters.

As you continue South you arrive back at the Cairns Esplanade Swimming Lagoon.
The Lagoon is the main attraction the Cairns Esplanade. The perfect spot to jump in and have a swim, cool down from the hot humid air.
We hope you have enjoyed out little tour of the Cairns Esplanade Waterfront Boardwalk. We will add more photos of the Southern section of the Boardwalk that passes the Reef Fleet Terminal and Marlin Marina shortly.
